A meditation on thresholds and belonging: Historically, the West Door was “once reserved for the most important visitors.” The practical reason was simple—wind would blow out the candles inside. The subsequent installation of an interior protective porch resolved this challenge and enabled a beautiful transformation: the grand entrance became universally accessible. This democratization of sacred space means that today, all visitors “can feel as equal” as they pass through these ancient arches.
