Howth Head Ablaze: Sumgood 2025 Auction

Howth Head Ablaze, painting, framed 16 x 12 inch, Sumgood Auction 2025

There’s something truly special about a sunset in Howth. The way the sky explodes in a fiery palette of oranges, pinks, and purples, casting a warm glow over the iconic Howth Head and its steadfast lighthouse – it’s a scene that stays with you long after the last sliver of sun dips below the horizon. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a bracing walk around Howth Head followed by the quintessential treat of fresh fish and chips by the sea, or even picking up your catch of the day for tea?

For me, Howth holds a treasure trove of fond memories. From leisurely strolls along the cliff path with the salty air kissing my face, to joyful family picnics overlooking the vast expanse of Dublin Bay, it’s a place where time seems to slow down and the beauty of nature takes centre stage.

Howth Head ablaze oil painting in frame.

My latest oil painting, “Howth Head Ablaze,” aims to capture one of those magical moments. Painted on a 12 x 16 inch canvas and presented in a frame, this piece is more than just a landscape; it’s an invitation to feel the salt on your skin and listen to the gentle rhythm of the ocean. It’s a visual reminder of those cherished moments spent wandering the scenic trails and soaking in the breathtaking views of Dublin Bay.

This painting holds a special place in my heart, and I’m thrilled to announce that “Howth Head Ablaze” will be featured in the Sumgood Annual Contemporary Art Auction next week on Wednesday, April 9th!
