A 30 day painting challenge
This September, I’m embarking on a personal journey to capture the essence of Limerick – my adopted home and the backdrop of my life’s most cherished moments. Through a 30-day painting challenge, I’ll be bringing to life the scenes and objects that define my ‘Limerick’ – Limerick through my eyes.
The challenge
For the entire month of September, I’ll be painting from life daily. If you spot me around town with my easel and brushes, please don’t hesitate to say hello!
You can expect to see me frequently along the quays, capturing the river that brings me such solace. There’s something magical about the sound of the water, especially when the tide is out. I’m also drawn to the charm of the Medieval city, with its old stone structures and the intriguing mix of ancient and modern architecture.
Why Limerick?
My love affair with Limerick began when I moved here for college to pursue a Computer Science degree at UL. Little did I know, I’d fall in love twice – with the city and with the man who would become my husband!
I was instantly captivated by the peace along the canal near UL, the walkable city centre, and the refreshing quietness compared to Dublin. As a student who loved dancing, Limerick’s vibrant nightlife was the cherry on top. Now, living here with my family, I cherish nothing more than a leisurely stroll through this beautiful city.
Why this challenge?
Summer months are dedicated to family time, reconnecting after the hectic school year. Come September, I often struggle to reignite my artistic spark. This challenge is my way of jumpstarting my creativity and shaking off the painting cobwebs.
I’ve decided to paint En Plein Air (outdoors, from life) – something I’ve only done a handful of times. It’s a fantastic learning experience that I hope will elevate my skills to new heights.
Moreover, I want to share my perspective of the city with you all. I aim to highlight the beauty in the everyday – those little details you might pass by without noticing. Yes, I’m one of those people who stops to admire the clouds, sky, flowers, and play of light!
This project will create a visual diary of my Limerick in September 2024, capturing both iconic landmarks and personal havens of peace.
